Hello

I’m often asked what I like most about the games. The truth is, I discover new gifts the games offers all the time. From being invited to contribute towards a university course on customer experience, to be invited to run corporate versions of the games and generate donations as well as ideas, the games have this incredible way of rewarding you when you least expect it.

It's important to remember when we started, back in 2020, with no roadmap or expectation of where it may go we put down a very important criteria of the games.

“Players take part with no expectation of what you take from it, only what you give.”

This has meant that the games only attract a certain type of CXer, which is fine. But what has also meant is from the start players give their all and their reward becomes the gratitude of the charities they support. That’s how it works. We come together to solve an ‘experience’ problem posed by a charity. We volunteer our time, we positively compete against other teams, we design how we work and what we deliver, and we all share everything with other players, and other charities so all can benefit.

We started playing virtual games across the globe. We then developed some country specific games to be played in the language of that country. And last year we moved from virtual to in person. Each new adventure proves how alive the spirit of the games is and the amazing capacity of those involved with the games to join me on this adventure.

From small acorns in 2020. We were a few spirited connections in the CX world, such as Heidi Stone, Rodrigo Perea, Neil Topf, Jonathan Daniels and Sharon Boyd, Santhakumaran Atmalingam, (to name a special few) came on board and pushed the games forward to now.

What an adventure, which I believe is only just starting. We now boast 1,000 active volunteers from over 40 countries, and we’ve helped 29 charities, by donating over an estimated 10,000 hours of thought leadership, proposition design and solutions.

Our interest within the CX Community grows, having been listed as a finalist in the BQF awards last year and being nominated the ‘Pay it Forward’ award at CX Live. It’s good to get the recognition, because it creates a stronger platform to promote the Customer Experience World Games.

This year we will have our most ambitious one yet, with one world games, up to six regional games, two corporate games and student games. But if we achieve our plans, that could be over 20 more charities helped in 2025.

If you had asked me at the start what would you ambition be for the CXWG beck in 2020 I would have said to stay relevant and help a charity a year. The games it turns out had bigger plans than I dare dream.

New volunteers are always welcome. We ask everyone to play once to experience the fulfilment of helping others, when you have no expectation for yourself. After which, we look to recruit volunteers to help with judging and organising. All our country specific games are led by former players. All our judges, and our steer co are former players. Even our resident podcast host, is a former player. We really are one big working community, who welcome new members all the time.

If you like the sound of it, come on board and witness how CX can make a positive impact in society.
